Night Bird
Enter into the realm of "Night Bird," a collection of abstract minimalist paintings that embrace the dark side.
This series systematically explores surrender, mirroring my intentional release of control to let the paint fall where it may. Similar to life's unpredictability, my process welcomes the unforeseen, revealing a beauty beyond expectation.
Following my sister's sudden passing, this series illustrates my journey through grief. As a chronic night owl, and frequent visitor of the dark side of the moon, I took inspiration from the mysteries of the nocturnal realm, entwined with the surrounding untamed wilderness of Ucluelet (Yuu-tluth-aht) where I make my home.
Each painting takes its name from Norse mythology (inspired by my Danish heritage), followed by a phrase borrowed from my late-night internet searches. These names are meant to embody both a stoic assertion and relentless questioning.
"Night Bird" reveals the transformative power of embracing uncertainty, with each painting representing what might be glimpsed within the shadows, once you let your eyes adjust.
